Tues back to business: angie

Every other Monday, I will add a new "goal" and give it 2 weeks to become a habit. So, right now, my goals are no diet coke and still no coffee. Next goal I want to obtain is NO baked chips. I eat them to much. Every now and again is great....but I probably buy a bag of baked chips a week and eat them all by myself (NOT GOOD!). So, if I can keep to eating chips at restaurants only...I will be good to go!

Boring Monday ~ Jamie

Today we stayed home all day. We are working on Potty training my youngest. So we could not go anywhere. Then it rained for about an hour which was a nice change. The yards needed it. it has been so hot!. So then it was too muddy for the girls to go out in the back. They have been bugging me all day to do something "fun". Why do children feel the need to be entertained everyday?

Input:
1 piece of wheat toast with that special olive oil butter
Arizona tea with water
Mac and Cheese
Left over boneless beef ribs
Mexican Chicken Casserole

Output:
36 minutes of Wii Fit Yoga and Strength Training
30 minutes of Wii Fit Free Step (3315 Steps. I caught it not counting my side to side steps again Grrr!)

Monday Goals: angie

Goal this week: NO DIET COKE! (btw, I'm on Day 22 of NO COFFEE). Getting the sugar (all sugars besides natural sugars in foods like fruit, etc) out of my diet will be a slow process. I'm just going to work on one thing at a time. I feel like the coffee thing is >< that close to be totally handled :) Now to get rid of my occational diet coke thing. I tend to get one while I'm out and never finish them. Why? Because they are GROSS lol, but its the only drink besides water I feel like I can handle right now (calorie wise). I was super tired this morning, so skipped working out. I know I need to give myself a break at least once a week, so today was it!

Curly Fries
Iced Tea
Boneless Beef Ribs
Twice baked Potatoes
Corn on the Cob
Arizona Iced Tea with water

Output:
30 minutes of Wii Fit Free Step (3231 Steps...so I lost my 30 minutes. When I finish my step I leave it on and walk around the house, do some stretches, etc. for a cool down. Sometimes I come back and record my steps, sometimes I don't. Today we headed out to go swimming, so I did not record my steps yet. Later tonight I turned it back on like I always do but this time I hit the board power button and the remote button at the same exact time. Somehow it reset the game and I lost my 30 minutes. I am so frustrated. I saw the number of steps earlier, so I knew that, but I am sad I lost those minutes for my total records.)
Swimming for 90 minutes (45 minutes toward challenge)

Saturday!! angie

After really skimping two days in a row on exercise, I got up this morning and did 30 mins on the treadmill (running some of the time). I have to take it easy on the running or my knee will be paying for it BIG time. I had an injury as a child that will always keep me from full out running instead of walking :( which sucks...because I know if I can build myself up to running, the weight would melt off. Oh well....baby steps! The scales showed a tiny tiny drop this morning, so I was happy and motivated. Nearing the end of my cycle, so that makes me happpppy too!

Fantastic Friday

My daughter #2 has been gone all week with my in-laws and is coming home today. I will admit it has been a much calmer week then usual (She is a special needs girl). And the best news. Today was weigh in day for the Biggest Loser competition. Drum Roll Please....

That is 18.5 pounds down since I started all of this exercise stuff. Yay me!!! I am so close to two goals. 20 pounds lost and getting into the 180's. I am floored and so happy. Really, I have already lost 20 pounds as I was 210 when I decided to get serious. But my first recorded weight was 208.5. Either way, I am so excited to be doing this! I feel better about myself everyday. I have never had to work so hard at something, and I most certainly have never stuck to something that was this hard. Yay me. ;)

Monday again! angie

Well, the scales show a "decent" number this morning. I actually bought a calendar that I write my weight on everyday (for now). From 2 weeks ago (when I started getting on the treadmill everyday), I've lost just shy of 4 lbs. Not shabby, but I had gained some prior to getting back on the wagon. I lacked about 6 oz (LOL...so funny to be talking "ounces") to hit 4 full pounds lost. I have so many to go, so in the grand scheme, its small. But, any victory in long term weight loss is a great victory. I did not exercise this morning. Very tired and felt I needed a day off. Cycle is soon, which means cramps and tired tired tired!

20 mins of EXERCISE
20 mins on treadmill (evening)

FOOD
oatmeal w/brown sugar *breakfast*
1 large orange, 1 luna bar, 1 tootsie roll *snack*

The Big Show

Tonight was Julia's big performance she has been working all week on. She did so well. I am so proud of her. I really expected her to clam up but she did great.

Today is also Father's Day. We got to celebrate it a little this morning before we had to do other things.

Machachas
Iced Coffee
Mandarin Chicken Salad
Waffle Bowl Sundae (Vanilla Ice Cream with hard shell chocolate in a waffle bowl)

Output:
90 minutes of swimming (45 for challenge)
20 minutes of Strength exercises

Sunday Madness: angie

A really great friend (I love her to pieces and value her opinion a LOT) told me the other day that at my skinniest (about 2 years ago), I looked "to skinny". That my collarbones stuck out and my arms were tiny. I don't recall being to skinny. I definiately want to be at a good weight (toned!!). So, I guess you could say, I'm struggling with my *goals* right now. Even at my skinniest, I still thought I needed to tone. I dunno, its hard. I'm just going to take it one day at a time :) I do know that my body will take fat from places (collarbone area) and I'll STILL have fat on my tummy/hips/sides/legs. Its FRUSTRATING that you can not control *where* your body takes weight off. My cycle will start in the next day or so (hence the recent tootsie roll eating, ugh!). I must keep working out through though :)

35 mins of EXERCISE
15 mins on treadmill (morning)
20 mins on treadmill (evening)

FOOD
kashi cereal/soymilk *breakfast*
luna bar/1 tootsie roll *snack*

Day 13 of NO COFFEE! This is huge for me. Yay! I don't crave it daily anymore. But, I still don't trust that if I had a little cup, that I would not fall off the wagon and go back to drinking it daily. So, I must stay away from it continuously for a few more weeks. I was really concerned that my weight would flare up this morning because I went out to eat last night. It didn't...yahoo!!

Still Feverish

And oh so freakin HOT! I can not get cool enough. I am an icky sweaty mess. I don't want to move. Steve came home and let me go hang out in the pool by myself so I could cool off (and so I could get some exercise in). I am not eating very well as I am just not feeling up to it. Today was weigh in day for the DAMBLC and I weighed in at 193. I was very excited to see the number but not thrilled about why I am losing it. Means I have to work harder next week to keep it off and lose more.

Input:
Sonic Strawberry Banana Smoothie (Had to get some fluids in me)

Output:
75 minutes of swimming sans kids. I did laps and some water "aerobics".

I went to ON THE BORDER, so:
chips and salsa *snack* lol
3 tortillas filled with rice/beans/cheese/salsa *dinner*

THOUGHTS
Still doing good. Still TIRED as heck. I finished some antibiotics last night, so perhaps my energy and being tired will slack off. Or maybe my body is just taking awhile to get used to exercising more often. It is so funny...because I literally get on the treadmill in the morning about 5 mins after I wake up while yawning and still rubbing my eyes lol. I need to research some more *energy* foods. THANK GOD ITS FRIDAY!!! *BTW* I don't know if anyone reads my posts, but I only post the drinks I drink if it is not water. I drink water throughout the day. As soon as I get to work, I pour myself a cup of water and refill it throughout the day :)

Nasty Fever

Today I was feeling off. Was suppose to meet friends for lunch but canceled at the last minute because I was SO hot and the girls were fussy, etc. Thank goodness I did. Two of us have fevers. Ugh. A fever during the summer is crazy. You don't know hot till you have experienced this. So i only got 30 minutes in today, which is ok for the challenge. I just focused on doing some Yoga. Nice and slow and stretchy my achy body.

Jamie's Wednesday

Not much to report here. Went to the doc to get a new splint for my finger. The other one was so uncomfortable and wasn't helping. My doc was very surprised that the original doc I saw gave me that flat metal splint. So now I have a new one. Hopefully it works.

THOUGHTS
I felt so tired yesterday evening. I decided to play with my kids all evening instead of working out (playing with them outside was my workout lol). My son always gets me to play "catch" with him after I get home from work. It was nice sitting out on the back porch watching them blow bubbles, squirt water guns and be silly. This morning was a WEAK workout. I'll have to step it up tonight!! *blargh*...I only did 15 mins tonight. So freaking tired. I came home and took a little nap. That is so NOT like me. I feel like I'm on the verge of getting sick, but I don't have the time or energy for that lol

Root Beer

Output:
1 hour of swimming (30 minutes towards the challenge)
30 minutes of Wii Fit

THOUGHTS
Day 9 of NO COFFEE. It was kind of hard this morning with the coffee. I keep yawning and wanted a "pick me up" :( ARGH!!!! I'm creeping up on two weeks without it. Whats up with that? I don't know what the deal is, but I'm hungry throughout the day and eat fine, etc...then at night....my tummy all feels ugh and I feel like I'll yarf if I eat anything more than just a "little" something. Perhaps I need to stuff in more throughout the day prior to 6pm. Because after that...ugh!

Day 7 of NO COFFREE!! Can you believe it? I've posted/updated for a week solid! w00t!! I mean business this time. I woke up feeling horrible. A friend of mine that I met with last week found out she has bronchitis. So, I'm a bit scared of that. Took some emergenC and some Vitamin C this morning. Even thought I felt like I had been run over by a truck, I made myself get on the treadmill this morning. TONIGHT will be the night that I add EXTRA exercise for certain body parts. I want rotate "arms" "legs" "abs", etc. That is what I did last time and it worked great for me. BTW, our wii fit is still being used. Not by me at this point, but my teenage daughter. She uses it everyday, so I'm so glad for that! Hopefully, she will keep it up. I still want to do the step every so often because I seemed to like that part of it lol and the hulahoopin' *update* I didn't feel great today...so I didn't eat as much as I should have :(

Getting Back Into The Swing Of Things

It has only taken me 4 days to start getting back into the swing of things. Still unpacking and such, but this dang hand doesn't let me do too much. It just had to be my right hand, didn't it. I picked up some water proof tape today. I swam yesterday without the splint on and that was not smart. So today I got the tape so I can at least tape my fingers while I swim. That should help.

Plus Steve is home today to help with things. Changing a diaper sucks right now. But he has a cold and is very grumpy. :(

Input:
3 donut holes
Snuffer's Cheese Fries
Taco Salad
Water with Lemon
Flavor Ice

I'm thinking 14 days of updates heehee. I did 5 more mins than usual on the treadmill this morning. I usually do just 15 because I'm rushed in the mornings. Today = 20 mins YAY! I'm also listening to a podcast, so that makes the time more interesting as well.

BLC Season 10

My Moms group is starting the Biggest Loser Competition today. Season 10 and I have joined up again. Hoping to get a little more motivation out of it this season then last. peanutbutter/jelly sandwich (my tummy is really upset tonight, ugh!)

THOUGHTS
Day 5 of NO COFFEE. I'm proud of myself. For as tired as I felt this morning, I resisted the temptation to stop and get a jolt of caffeine. I was so tired yesterday that I did not do my night time walking on the treadmill and I'm dissapointed to say that I did not do my morning on the treadmill today. But, I have tonight and I will do at least 30-45 mins for sure! *update* whew!! So glad I got on the treadmill. I could only handle 20 mins. I got off work early today and came home and took a nap, which is unusual for me. So, I know something is kicking me in the butt (energy-wise)...so I'm very thankful that I could manage to get on the treadmill at least once and for more than 10 mins LOL

THOUGHTS
Day 4 of NO COFFEE!! Our electricity went out last night....so I was thinking I wouldn't be able to get on the treadmill. It came back on and even though I was exhausted from the rain ordeal, I got on for 30 mins! This morning was HARD to get on the treadmill...I was so tired and exhausted. My butt muscles still hurt and now my leg muscles hurt too. I know this is a "good" thing, because it means I worked those areas out.

Back!!!

Do I have to be back? Our trip was perfect! The beach was gorgeous. I miss it so much. It was really hard and sad to leave. But I am home and back to reality.

Turns out I have a broken finger. I did it two months ago but thought I just twisted it or pulled a muscle or something. it kept hurting. Then this weekend I went to pick up the diaper back and it hurt SO bad, I almost threw up. So I promised DH I would have it looked at when I got home. Doc took me in this afternoon and felt around, asked questions and then said he really thought it needed to be x-rayed. I disagreed. No way I broke it.

Yep, plain as day, there was a nice fracture. Ugh. So now i am in a splint for 3 weeks and will have to get it re-xrayed. I also have a torn ligament. This splint is a pain. So exercising is going to be off for a little while. Holding a Wii remote for things like boxing just isn't going to work. I am currently looking for a plastic splint to swim in.

THOUGHTS
Day 3 of NO COFFEE. To be honest, so far...I am not craving or missing the coffee. The thought of drinking something hot after working out does not sound pleasing at all. MY BUTT MUSCLES HURT SO BAD!!!! I woke up at 4am in the morning hurting (my bum!). I guess the walking is working my rear out in a good (but hurtful) way! OUCH!!

FOOD
Bran cereal (1 1/4 cup 210 calories) + soy milk (1/2 cup)

THOUGHTS
Day 1 of NO COFFEE. I have GOT to get out of the habit of drinking and relying on coffee in the mornings. I have hope, because it is so darn HOT outside now that it isn't something I want to "warm me up". I'm going to try and drink green tea if I feel like I need something. I brought a lot of fruit to work today, so that will be my "snacks".

Starting Sunday!

45 mins of exercise:
15 mins on treadmill (early morning)
30 mins on treadmill (night)

1 small coffee, 1 bowl bran cereal
foot long veggie delite from subway
1 piece of sponge cake
black beans + cheese + baked chips
1 granola bar
water!

The day after my treadmill was delivered, I hurt my back. Go figure! I've been in extreme pain since. A lot of time on a heating pad and taking a pillow with me to work. FINALLY, this morning...it felt good enough to get on the treadmill. I should still see a chiro, but no $$ for that just yet. So, to be honest..it was my first workout on my new machine. Only 15 mins, but much to do this morning (church!), so I will get on again this evening. That is my plan....morning and evening on the treadmill. Break it up into two workouts and then add additional stuff in the evening (arms, legs, DVDs, etc). I FEEL GOOD :) and then my next hurdle is my FOOD! which has been terrible terrible lately :(

Off Tomorrow

My baby girl graduated from Kindergarten today. Boohoo! I can't believe it. I now have a 1st grader.

We leave for our trip tomorrow. I can't wait to get back home and see all my family. While I am gone, the girls in the challenge have agreed to take a break and pick up when I get back. So we can keep the challenge going. I will be getting a lot of "exercise" in while I am gone. Long walks on the beach, lifting luggage and children, etc. So hopefully I can easily get back into it when I get home.

Eat Chocolate While Dieting

Here are some ways to sneak in some chocolate while still eating healthy.

8 slimming secrets to eat more chocolate
When Devin Alexander lost 55 pounds, she was fixated on the thought that she'd never eat chocolate again if she wanted to be healthy. Instead of accepting this reality, she made it her business to work around it. Devin says that she currently eats chocolate every single day without the weight struggle. And now it has actually become her business. She is the author of the New York Times bestselling "Biggest Loser Cookbook," as well as the host of "Healthy Decadence" on Fit TV. Here is a taste of her chocolate-covered wisdom...

DEVIN ALEXANDER'S 8 SLIMMING SECRETS TO EAT MORE CHOCOLATE

1. Less is more with mini chocolate chips.
These little guys are one of my secret weapons when it comes to sneaking chocolate into sweet treats. Because they're much smaller than standard chips, you need fewer to get more in each bite. I use them in my signature Chocolate Chocolate Brownie Cups (see below), and you can also try adding a few to a sandwich bag with some whole grain cereal for a delicious on-the-go snack.

2. Get creative with cocoa powder.
Cocoa powder is not just for baking. Add a spoonful to your favorite fruit smoothie in the morning (my personal favorite is raspberry) or add a touch of cocoa to your oatmeal for a decadent twist. Not only is cocoa powder a light way to get in some chocolate, but it's high in fiber, too.

3. When in doubt, use chocolate syrup.
Whenever I'm looking for a quick chocolate fix, I pull out the chocolate syrup and drizzle it on everything from fresh fruit to marshmallows. I love to make breakfast "sundaes" with nonfat yogurt, bananas or berries, low-fat granola, and a drizzle of chocolate syrup on top!

4. Choose chocolate graham crackers.
Did you know that chocolate graham crackers are actually low-fat? Though the label almost never says so, 1 chocolate graham sheet has typically only about 3 g of fat. Try these with a glass of low-fat or nonfat milk for a sweet pick-me-up.

5. Get chocolate and protein into your ice blended.
I love those frothy ice-blended drinks from the local coffee shop, but they're usually full of fat and empty calories. Blend your own at home with nonfat milk, coffee powder, ice, and chocolate protein powder. It'll give you a great energy boost and satisfy your chocolate craving.

6. Enjoy hot fudge without pudge.
Lots of store-bought hot fudge toppings are actually fat-free. Even if the front label doesn't say so, read the nutrition facts. You'll find that many of them actually have zero grams of fat. I dip fresh strawberries in warmed hot fudge for a chocolate "fondue" treat anytime.

7. Don't be afraid to try something new.
I'm always looking for new ways to sneak chocolate into my diet. I recently discovered all-natural chocolate brown rice syrup. It's like a cross between chocolate syrup and hot fudge, but it's all-natural, gluten free, and even fat-free! It's made without beet or can sugars, corn syrup, or other refined sweeteners of any kind. It has a super rich, deep chocolate flavor and goes well with everything from fruit to fat-free ice cream. Look for Suzanne's Specialties Chocolate Brown Rice Nectar at Whole Foods or on their website.

8. CHOCOLATE CHOCOLATE BROWNIE CUPS
Devin Alexander's signature recipe from "The Most Decadent Diet Ever!" (Random House)
Makes 48 brownie cups; 24 servings
Save: 151 calories, 11 g fat, 2 g saturated fat. Each two-brownie serving has: 109 calories, 2 g protein, 23 g carbohydrates, 1 g fat, <1 g saturated fat, 0 mg cholesterol, trace fiber, 139 mg sodium. A traditional brownie serving has about: 260 calories, 3 g protein, 37 g carbohydrates, 12 g fat, 3 g saturated fat, 15 mg cholesterol, 1 g fiber, 165 mg sodium.

Ingredients:
Butter-flavored cooking spray
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
8 large egg whites
2 cups raw sugar
1/2 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons instant espresso powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Thoroughly mist two 12-cup nonstick mini-muffin tins with spray.
2. Use a sturdy whisk or spatula to mix the applesauce, vanilla, egg whites, and sugar in a large mixing bowl until well combined. Add the flour, cocoa powder, espresso powder, baking powder, and salt. Stir until just combined and no lumps remain. Working in batches, fill each cup until just barely full. Sprinkle about one-fourth of the chips evenly over the brownies in each of the tins. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out dry (a few crumbs are okay).
3. Transfer the tins to a cooling rack and cool for 5 minutes. Use a butter knife to gently lift the brownies from the muffin tins (if they stick, carefully run the knife around the edge of each cup). Cool on the rack for another 10 minutes. Repeat with the second half of the batter and the remaining chips.
Note: These brownie cups freeze extremely well if you want to keep them on hand for your children's after-school cravings or your midnight sweet tooth. With only 54 calories and less than 1 gram of fat each, you really can't go wrong!
